Product Overview

This is Available to Purchase Through ConnectWise. Contact Your Account Manager for More Details.

HitmanPro runs alongside your current antivirus, using its behavioral, deep-scanning technology to find and eliminate zero-day malware that has avoided detection. Every day a new host of next-gen malware is activated, and it can be found everywhere, even on trusted websites. Make sure your system is protected against the malware designed to slip through the cracks.

How Does It Work?

Behavioral detections + collective intelligence

Instead of solely relying on product signatures to detect malware, HitmanPro investigates each file’s behavior to determine what acts malicious. This approach gives HitmanPro the ability to stop brand-new and complex malware and viruses before they’ve been identified. HitmanPro also accesses the Kaspersky Labs, Bitdefender and SophosLabs remote malware databases, allowing for immediate detection of even more forms of malware, while tracking the malware to its source.

No installation needed

HitmanPro is only 12 MB and requires no installation. It can start directly from a desktop, USB Flash Drive, CD/DVD, or a remote storage device. Even if your antivirus is being manipulated by malware or ransomware is getting a hold of your files, HitmanPro functions normally, detecting and removing the threat.

Comprehensive remediation

HitmanPro has the ability to remove persistent threats from within your operating system and replaces infected Windows resources with safe, original versions, all while proactively blocking reinfection attempts.

Learn how HitmanPro works alongside your current antivirus product and integrates with ConnectWise Automate. Plus, see a demo of how HitmanPro scans to locate undetected viruses that antivirus products miss, then sends that information to LabTech to do the required work.

Second Opinion Malware Scanner

If your child is not feeling well and you suspect he or she has a virus infection you're going to visit your doctor. But what do you do when the doctor tells you that he cannot find anything but your child still does not feel very well? Of course, you go to visit another doctor for a second opinion.

This is the same what Hitman Pro does for your computer. Hitman Pro is a second opinion scanner, designed to rescue your computer from malware (viruses, trojans, rootkits, etc.) that have infected your computer despite all the security measures you have taken (such as anti virus software, firewalls, etc.).

Why a Second Opinion?

Research shows that computers are still run a chance of getting infected because the existing anti virus program is not giving you a 100% protection. "32% of computers infected, despite presence of anti virus program."

Just relying on a single vendor is not sufficient to completely protect you. You do need a second source to make sure you are secure. But in most cases, installing a second anti virus program is not a viable solution. Two programs are effecting the performance of the computer dramatically, and sometimes even conflict causing the computer to crash.

Hitman Pro is designed to work alongside existing security programs without any conflicts. It scans the computer quickly (less than 5 minutes) and does not slow down the computer (except for the few minutes it is scanning). Hitman Pro does not need to be installed. It can be run straight from a USB flash drive, a CD/DVD, local or network attached hard drive.

Hitman Pro offers you a Free Scan for a second opinion. It is designed to check if your security measures work. If nothing is found (and we sincerely hope so), then you will never need a license. When a virus is found, then you will receive a free 30-day license to remove the threat.

Behavioural Scan

SurfRight has done an extensive research of malware files to determine the common characteristics (behaviour) of malware. The Hitman Pro client uses this research in its Behavioural Scan, when it scans the computer for virus activities or suspicous files that have the characteristics of malware. Click here for more details about the Behavioural Scan.

Scan Cloud

For the files that are classified as suspicious, the Hitman Pro client sends a request to the Scan Cloud for confirmation if these files are indeed malicious. The Scan Cloud is a cluster of multiple computers, residing on the Internet. The Scan Cloud will respond to this request with the answer:

When the file is unknown, the Hitman Pro client uploads the file to the Scan Cloud where the file is scanned using the anti virus programs of 5 different vendors. Each of these anti virus programs analyzes the file and responds with "safe" or "malicious". Click here for more details about the Scan Cloud.

Malware Removal

When the file is classified as malicious by the Scan Cloud, the Hitman Pro client is placing the infection into quarantine. Various techniques ensure that all infections are completely removed without false positives. Click here for more details on the removal process.

Who Should Use Hitman Pro?

Computer users can use the Free Scan of Hitman Pro as a quick check (less than 5 minutes) to ensure that the existing anti virus program has not missed a threat.

Help Desk and Support organizations can use the Free Scan of Hitman Pro as a quick check for viruses and other malware. It can be run from USB or CD/DVD. No installation is required. Website owners can offer the Free Scan of Hitman Pro as a service to visitors for a quick second opinion.

HitmanPro Antivirus Review

hitmanpro logo squareIs HitmanPro a good antivirus? How effective is it at protecting against malware threats?
HitmanPro was developed by Mark Loman and his company Surfright in the Netherlands, and the brand was first launched in 2006. SurfRight was acquired in December 2015 by Sophos, a major antivirus brand for home and corporate cyber security.
It is my goal in this review to reveal how well I believe HitmanPro will operate for the ordinary home PC user, as well as how well I believe it will protect them against malware and virus infections. Is HitmanPro a viable alternative to other leading options available on the market?

The programs’ overall performance, features, customer service, user interface, and pricing will all be taken into consideration.

This HitmanPro review answers the following questions:

  • What features are included with HitmanPro?
  • How successful is HitmanPro when it comes to malware protection?
  • What effect does it have on the performance of your computer?
  • How straightforward is the process of installing and getting support?
  • How much does HitmanPro cost?

Before I go into detail about my results, I want to provide a brief overview of what I discovered regarding HitmanPro antivirus solutions.

Summary

HitmanPro doesn’t slow your PC down and it has a really user-friendly interface, but, unfortunately, that’s about as good as it gets. The on-demand scan failed to detect malware files, which is alarming considering it is the primary reason for using an antivirus.

There are other options on the market that provide better value for money, and are better capable of combating malware threats. Keep reading for the full testing data and information about how I came to this conclusion.

What’s new in the latest version of HitmanPro?

In the most recent version of HitmanPro released in January 2022, a couple of improvements have been made. The updates include:

  • FIXED: Detection and removal of Chrome cookies
  • FIXED: Windows XP Updater
  • CHANGED: Terms and Conditions when using HitmanPro for the first time

In the previous update released at the end of December 2021 a few improvements were added, as listed below:

  • ADDED: Detection of Turla malware
  • IMPROVED: Scan speed in certain scenarios
  • CHANGED: Cloud components

In addition to the above updates Hitman Pro also constantly updates its malware and virus signature databases.

How to get the latest version of HitmanPro

The latest version can be downloaded from the HitmanPro website. It’s worth mentioning that from here the website redirects you to pay for and download the software from its reseller, partner Cleverbridge AV.

What versions of the software are available?

HitmanPro

HitmanPro is labeled as an advanced malware removal program. This means that it is only used for removing existing infections on your Windows machine. It is designed to scan your files and programs to find and remove all traces of known and new malware hidden on your computer.

HitmanPro examines behavior while searching for trojans and other malware. Malicious conduct can be detected even when a malware signature isn’t present.

HitmanPro uses malware databases from four security laboratories, including SophosLabs, to be very comprehensive when searching for and wiping up spyware and malware. More research implies more powerful cleaning.

Resistant malware may also influence vital system files and boot records, allowing it to control the Windows operating system and installed antivirus software. This is even before the operating system boots. HitmanPro can eliminate these persistent threats from the running operating system and its boot records.

It also includes PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application) removal to target apps that appear benign but are actually used to mask spyware, adware, trojans and other malicious programs.

HitmanPro.Alert

HitmanPro.Alert includes everything found in HitmanPro but it also adds in quite a few features to deliver continuous protection.

This includes advanced real-time protection to protect against new and developing malware, PUAs, and program exploits to prevent infection from the latest threats. Advanced ransomware protection stops all types of ransomware from encrypting your files and boot drive.

Advanced web protection blocks phishing attacks and compromised websites for safe browsing and shopping. Online banking protection secures online banking and shopping on web browsers. Advanced exploit prevention prevents vulnerable programs from being hacked to allow attackers to gain access to your system. Privacy protection monitors access to your webcam and blocks attempts to record your keystrokes.

Is HitmanPro antivirus effective against malware?

Malware, viruses, trojans, and worms, spyware, and trackers are just some of the risks that users face today from malicious files and programs. It’s important to choose an antivirus tool that can stop any of these assaults swiftly and efficiently.

In order to find out how well HitmanPro performs against a number of attacks, I will run a few tests. This includes a real-time scanning test to see if the program can stop a variety of dangers. After testing the real-time scanning function of HitmanPro.Alert I will also check how well its on demand scanner works by finding malware that already exists on the local disk.

For the avoidance of doubt, the software I will use in my tests is the HitmanPro.Alert version, as it includes the on-demand scanning function of HitmanPro plus it has real-time scanning which I also want to test and compare against other antivirus programs.

Real-time scanning tests

HitmanPro.Alert will be put to the test first by seeing how it handles a small number of malware sample files from the European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research (EICAR) in real-time.

In order to pass this test, the real-time scanner must detect the files as malicious upon download and immediately stop them. There are four of these sample files, each of which is intended to replicate a different kind of viral assault that may be experienced when using the internet.

The first is an eicar.com file which has an ASCII character string. In the second file, eicar.com.txt, I have copied the string from the first file and pasted it into Wordpad on my computer to see whether the malware scanner picks it up when I save the file.  The third test file is included inside a zip folder, which adds an additional layer of complexity for the antivirus scanner, but it is also a condition that it should be able to handle in the real world. A good anti-virus scanner will be able to identify a virus that has been hidden inside an archive. The final Eicar test file is a zip bundle that contains the virus sample file archived more than one folder deep. This file will be used to detect whether the virus scanner examines file archive folders that are more than one level deep in the directory structure.

I’m interested in seeing whether the software detects and blocks the samples, and if so, how it performs that task. The following table contains the results of the HitmanPro.Alert program:

What this table means is that HitmanPro.Alert failed to detect the files at the point of download and allowed all four EICAR files including the saved .txt file and the archived files to be downloaded even with its real-time scanner active. Not good.

Next I tested the software’s real-time scanner against some live malware files, to see how it performed. Unlike the sample files from EICAR that replicate a virus, these live samples include harmful programs such as trojans and adware.

Again, I found that in my tests HitmanPro failed to stop the download or immediately quarantine the live samples that I downloaded.  Upon attempting to extract the zipped files from the live sample archives, it did detect the samples.

This table breaks down its success against the different types of malware that were downloaded:

Overall I was pretty disappointed with the performance of the live scanning ability and lack of effectiveness from the HitmanPro.Alert real-time scanner.

HitmanPro.Alert does offer some strong real-time exploit defenses, which can identify and stop malware and exploits that are targeting background processes in the program. The ability to block malware that is already running on your system is a useful feature, but I’d prefer a real-time protection feature that could more accurately prevent malware from being downloaded and running in the first place, such as the real-time protection offered by most leading antivirus brands.

On-demand scanning tests

Next, I wanted to test how well the on-demand scanner included with the HitmanPro.Alert suite dealt with the virus and malware files. To do this I turned off the live scanning function from the dashboard. I then downloaded all four EICAR files and the three live samples without the program blocking the downloads.HitmanPro scanning

Now with them on my local drive, I was able to run a scan to see how many it would find.

There’s no option for a quick scan (At least in the HitmanPro.Active software I used) though I did notice in the website product literature a quick scan function was mentioned.

Instead, I only had a ‘Run scan’ button available with no setting options. I clicked the button to start the scan and monitored the results as well as how long the scan took and how many files it checked in that time.

The full scan was fairly short and took just 5 minutes to complete on my PC. Unfortunately HitmanPro.Alert once again failed to find any of the files in my on-demand scan. The program did find and alert me to tracking cookies on my device which is something, but not really what I was looking for.

I had to install another antivirus software to pick up the malware files that were left behind and clean them from my device.

HitmanPro.Alert also didn’t provide any data on how many files it checked during its scan which makes it harder to understand how far into the system it checked for malware.

Due to its short scan time and the fact it didn’t find any of the sample malware files on my device, I don’t have confidence that it checked as many files as other programs I’ve tested. The table below shows examples of comparable scans by other providers.

As the table shows other providers’ full scans took much longer than HitmanPro.Alert.

Independent lab testing results

In this part of the review, I would usually provide an overview of the latest results from leading independent test labs AV-Comparatives and AV-Test.

The idea is that the labs provide large scale tests against hundreds of samples including zero-day threats, so they give a good indication of how good the software is.

In this case, I am unable to find any testing data from the two labs, so I can’t assess how HitmanPro performs against a broader set of data or against zero-day threats as found in the test run by AV-Test.

HitmanPro features

HitmanPro advanced interface
HitmanPro comes with a number of different features. Here’s an overview of some of the main ones.

Protection for vulnerable programs

HitmanPro.Alert claims it can protect vulnerable programs by fighting against backdoor attacks.

Using a backdoor, an individual may get access to a computer system or encrypted data by circumventing the system’s normal security safeguards. For debugging or other reasons, a developer may include a backdoor in a program or operating system that may be accessed by other developers.

As a consequence, remote access to resources inside an application, such as databases and file servers, is allowed, allowing offenders the ability to remotely issue system instructions and update malware without being physically present.

Even very popular standard applications such as Microsoft Word and Office might be the weakest link. Their capabilities may be used against you, allowing for the creation of an open backdoor to your files and sensitive information. Additional protection layers are placed around these susceptible apps, and compromised Windows resources are replaced with secure, original versions as part of the HitmanPro.Alert process.

Deceive malware to “self-destruct”

HitmanPro uses an interesting feature that it says can deceive malware into being deactivated. According to the company, the idea behind the feature is that hackers don’t want their malware to be studied by security experts because then it becomes well known and easy to stop.

To prevent this many malware programs have a built-in ‘self-destruction’ mode when the software recognizes behavior like that of an antivirus researcher. To take advantage of this HitmanPro.Alert has a built in feature to make it look as though everyone who uses the antivirus looks like a researcher to the malware. It claims that this results in a lot of terminated malware.

Secure browser and webcam protection

HitmanPro.Alert encrypts the information you enter on the internet, rendering keyloggers ineffective at acquiring critical information such as credit card numbers and login passwords, or personal details like your date of birth and address. Additionally, HitmanPro.Alert improves the security of your browser, preventing hacker vulnerabilities.

The software also has a webcam protection feature to keep access to your camera secure. Should any software on your device activate your camera, you’ll get a notification to alert you so you can take action and approve and reject access.

Stop zero-day ransomware

CryptoGuard is a feature in HitmanPro.Alert that monitors all encryption activity and provides recommendations. When HitmanPro.Alert detects unlawful encryption, it responds immediately. It first makes backups of the data, then disables and eliminates the ransomware from the system. Finally, it enables the data to be restored to its original format when necessary. There is no need for user input, and no ransomware signatures are required. HitmanPro claims the tool can stop zero-day ransomware attacks. HitmanPro risk reduction

What is HitmanPro’s impact on performance?

How much impact does HitmanPro.Does Alert have on PC Performance? Most antivirus scanners have some impact on PC speed and system resources. No one wants an antivirus that will slow down their PC too much so I ran a few tests to see how HitmanPro performs.

The quickscan feature doesn’t seem to be available on the HitmanPro.Alert version I was using for testing, so I can’t look at its impact, but I was able to run a full scan.

I logged the percentage of my CPU that was being utilized just before I ran the scan, as a checkpoint for comparison.

Then, while the scan was running, I noted how long it took and how much it impacted the computer’s resources compared to the control numbers. This allowed me to determine how much the antivirus application affected PC performance when the scan is running. The performance impact of the full scan is shown below.

No valueHitmanPro

Best deal (per month)$2.07
One year plan only $24.95!

As can be observed, there is some impact on the performance numbers. CPU utilization increased by 35 percent and disk utilization increased from 34 MB/s to 519 MB/s. Overall the impact is fairly minimal and I found I was still able to easily perform tasks such as launching apps while the scan was running. I also quickly launched a game and video stream and both ran smoothly even while the antivirus app was running in the background.

The HitmanPro app is pretty lightweight and that’s what I expected to see; the installer file itself was only around 10MB.

Is the interface easy to use?

HitmanPro dashboard

HitmanPro.Alert has a nice layout and the design looks modern. Its black interface with bright colors is eye catching.

The features themselves are very clearly laid out and easy to navigate. You can easily launch a scan from the top of the interface, run product updates, and check that you have the latest available version of the software.

The UI will also provide a clear notice informing you if your system is safe or not, and whether you need to take action to secure it. You may also immediately visit the safety notice to get a history of what actions or recommendations the program has performed.

HitmanPro customer support

HitmanPro and HitManPro.Alert have separate support pages on the company website, so make sure you navigate to the correct page for the version of the software you are using.HitmanPro support page

For a paid product, the support from HitmanPro is sadly lacking. There’s a short FAQ answering a few basic questions, but there’s no knowledgebase, live chat, video tutorials, or phone support.

HitmanPro does offer a support email where you can get help from the team if the FAQ does not solve your problem.

Most paid antivirus products I’ve tested provide much more in depth support than what I’ve found with HitmanPro.

Compatibility

Currently, HitmanPro is a Windows computer and tablet only product, so Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android users will need to look elsewhere for antivirus protection. The minimum system requirements to run HitmanPro are listed below.

Best HitmanPro alternatives

It’s always worth researching and considering the best antivirus for you. During my testing of various AV programs I have found which programs have the best test results, and the best all round package for security and privacy. Here are a few of my recommendations.

AVG: A solid all-around antivirus with a 100 per cent protection rating in the most recent lab testing. A data shredder and camera protection are among the handy utilities included in the package.

ESET: Strong malware detection ratings combined with a fair price range make ESET a viable option. Because of the way ESET pricing is structured, it might provide value if you just need to protect one or two devices.

Bitdefender: Bitdefender augments its antivirus scanning with privacy technologies to provide an all-around protection solution. It will assist to safeguard your personal data while having a little influence on the functionality of your PC.

Conclusion

In this review, I have found that in my own tests HitmanPro.Alert failed to live up to its promises. While my testing is limited in scope and the program may well perform better in larger data set testing, there is little available in independent research to verify the program’s efficacy.

I found that its on demand scans failed to detect malware samples, and another program had to be installed to pick this up.

The plus points for HitmanPro.Alert is that it has some interesting features, a lightweight impact on PC resources, and a pretty good interface. However, there are much better antivirus solutions on the market that offer better value for money with better records of efficacy against malware.

BleepingComputer Review:

HitmanPro is an anti-virus program that describes itself as a second hitmanpro scanner that should be used in conjunction with another anti-virus program that you may already have installed.  If malware slips past your anti-virus software, hitmanpro, HitmanPro will then step in to detect it.  Though SurfRite bills themselves as a second opinion scanner that does not mean that you cannot use the program as your primary anti-virus product. This is because its scanning technology not only incorporates its own virus definitions but also has the ability to scan files on your computer with the definitions of 5 other anti-virus vendors.

A strong feature of HitmanPro is its Scan Cloud feature.  This feature comes into play when HitmanPro detects a suspicious file that they are unsure of.  When a suspicious file is detected, HitmanPro will upload the file to their cloud where it will then be scanned by 5 other anti-virus vendors.  Using the scan results from these vendors, HitmanPro will then decide when or not that file should be classified as malware and removed.  This approach is very effective as it allows a more thorough approach to detecting new malware.

HitmanPro also includes the ability to create a bootable USB drive that contains HitmanPro.Kickstart.  Kickstart is a full featured version of HitmanPro that can be run directly from the bootable USB drive.  This makes it very useful for removing stubborn infections, such as Ransomware, hitmanpro, that corrupt Windows Safe Mode or disable your ability to access the Windows Desktop.

Company's Description:

HitmanPro is a second opinion scanner, designed to rescue your computer from malware (viruses, trojans, hitmanpro, rootkits, etc.) that have infected your computer despite all the security measures you have taken (such as anti virus software, firewalls, etc.).

Research shows that computers are still run a chance of getting infected because the existing anti virus program is not giving you a 100% protection. "32% of computers infected, despite presence of anti virus program." Read more.

HitmanPro.Alert Antivirus Review 2022 — Does It Really Work?

HitmanPro.Alert (by Sophos) offers a good Windows-only antivirus scanner with strong exploit protections, but its real-time protection is weak, it doesn’t have phishing protection, hitmanpro, and its extra features are all pretty bad. Honestly, there are many better antivirus programs out there — premium antiviruses like Norton, Bitdefender, or McAfee all offer perfect malware detection and removal rates, a wide range of useful extras, intuitive dashboards across all operating systems, and excellent customer support. And if you’re looking for minimalistic antivirus software at a budget-friendly price, hitmanpro, I recommend you take a look at Sophos Home Premium.

HitmanPro is an extremely basic on-demand anti-malware scanner, but the upgraded HitmanPro.Alert plan offers HitmanPro’s scanner along with a lot more features, including:

  • Real-time malware detection.
  • Web protection.
  • Password dumping protection.
  • Remote session protection.
  • Webcam protection.

HitmanPro.Alert’s malware scanner worked well during my tests, catching around 90% of the malware samples I downloaded onto my Windows computer, hitmanpro. However, HitmanPro.Alert was unable to detect and block the majority of malware threats in real-time, which is a pretty big problem for an internet security suite.

Many of HitmanPro.Alert’s web protections were successful in my testing, hitmanpro, blocking all browser-based exploit attacks, but HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t offer any protection against phishing sites.

Unfortunately, hitmanpro, HitmanPro.Alert lacks a lot of essential security features that I want to see in an antivirus program in 2022, like a firewall, anti-phishing protection, parental controls, hitmanpro, a VPN, a password manager, and even 1Password Pro 7.8.7 Crack apps — similarly priced competitors such as Norton and Bitdefender include these features and provide better real-time malware protection as well as coverage across a good variety of operating systems.

Compared to the top antiviruses on the market, HitmanPro.Alert isn’t a good value. If you’re looking for an affordable antivirus option with hitmanpro scanning and web protections, there are plenty of free antivirus options that are better than HitmanPro.Alert. However, hitmanpro, you can check out HitmanPro and HitmanPro.Alert for free with a 30-day free trial and decide for yourself if they’re worth your money in 2022.

HitmanPro.Alert Full Review

HitmanPro.Alert is a minimal antivirus program with a good malware scanner but weak additional features.

HitmanPro.Alert offers real-time malware scanning, hitmanpro, as well as protection from browser-based exploits, hitmanpro, USB attacks, remote hitmanpro hacking, hitmanpro, hitmanpro password dumping, hitmanpro. Unfortunately, HitmanPro.Alert’s real-time protection was really ineffective in my testing, detecting only 40% of my malware samples — which is pretty bad. Competitors like Norton, Bitdefender, hitmanpro, and McAfee all caught 100% of the malware files in our real-time protection tests.

HitmanPro — which is only an on-demand antivirus scanner — and HitmanPro.Alert are both available for 30-day free trials and pretty affordable annual subscriptions.

HitmanPro.Alert Security Features

Virus Scanner (HitmanPro)

HitmanPro’s virus scanner compares files on your computer with 4 databases of known malware threats, including its own cloud-based database, as well as the databases run by SophosLabs, Kaspersky, hitmanpro, and Bitdefender. This allows HitmanPro to catch a really hitmanpro range of malware, hitmanpro, but it can’t detect zero-day threats because it doesn’t use heuristics or machine learning like Norton and McAfee do.

HitmanPro has 3 scan options:

  • Full scan. Scans the entire hitmanpro for malware.
  • Quick scan, hitmanpro. Scans temporary files and critical folders for malware.
  • Scheduled scan. Schedule a time and day to run a quick hitmanpro full system scan.

I tested the scanner by downloading an archive containing nearly one thousand malware samples, including viruses, computer worms, trojans, spyware, adware, ransomware, hitmanpro, rootkits, and cryptojackers. I hid the samples in different locations across my hard drive, including hard-to-reach areas like system folders.

HitmanPro’s quick scan took 4 minutes to complete, which is better than most competitors — even top antiviruses like Hitmanpro 10 minutes to hitmanpro a quick scan of my system.

HitmanPro’s quick scanner found 90% of the malware on my system and also flagged some potentially unwanted programs that I didn’t know about — this is a great result from a quick scan.

The full scanner took 30 minutes to complete, and it found 92% of my test malware files. This is a pretty good result, although premium competitors like Norton and Bitdefender are able to detect 100% of malware during full system scans.

I didn’t notice any CPU drain when using HitmanPro’s scanner. I was hitmanpro to stream HD video and even run CPU/GPU intensive video games, hitmanpro I was unable to do with some other antivirus programs.

HitmanPro isn’t as effective as premium competitors that use traditional signature-based scanning along with machine learning and heuristics to catch 100% of hitmanpro files, hitmanpro, but I like its lightweight scanner, which uses 4 separate databases of known malware signatures to detect unsafe files.

Real-Time Malware Protection

HitmanPro.Alert’s real-time protection is supposed to detect any malware file before you download or run it on your system — but it didn’t work very well in my testing.

I tried to download my malware cache of nearly a thousand different files on a clean computer with HitmanPro.Alert running on it — but the real-time protection only detected around 40% of my malware test files, which is a hitmanpro bad result.

HitmanPro.Alert does have some decent real-time exploit protections, hitmanpro can detect and block malware and exploits from attacking background processes. This is a useful feature for blocking malware that’s already running on your system, but I’d prefer hitmanpro real-time protection feature that could more accurately stop malware from being hitmanpro and hitmanpro in the first place, hitmanpro, like the real-time protection offered by Norton.

While HitmanPro.Alert’s exploit protections are pretty impressive, they don’t make up for the ineffective real-time malware scanner. Until HitmanPro.Alert can improve this feature, I can’t recommend users rely on this program hitmanpro real-time malware protection — however, you can check our list of the best antivirus programs to find products with high-quality real-time protections.

Web Protections

HitmanPro.Alert’s web protection adds exploit protections to your web browser, monitors your browser for vulnerabilities, and encrypts your keystrokes. It’s a decent set of web protections, but HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t block dangerous phishing websites (Avira and McAfee both offer good hitmanpro and phishing detection in their web shields).

The keystroke encryption doesn’t work either. It’s supposed to disguise anything you type into your web browser, stopping hackers from using keyloggers to intercept and steal your personally identifiable information (PII), hitmanpro, such as passwords and credit card details, hitmanpro. However, HitmanPro.Alert wasn’t actually encrypting my keystrokes. I used a keylogging test tool on my Windows 10 computer, and it was able to capture everything I entered.

Hackers will have access to much more advanced tools that can steal your PII. If you want an antivirus with keylogging protection, you should check out our 5 best antiviruses with keylogger protection.

The web exploit protection worked well, hitmanpro, detecting and blocking all of the exploits in my testing. Browser-based exploits are a really common method of malware incursion, so I was happy to see that HitmanPro.Alert was able to block some exploits that even some advanced competitors (like Avira) missed in my testing.

Overall, hitmanpro, HitmanPro.Alert’s web protections offer good defense against dangerous browser-based exploits, hitmanpro, but not much else. I’d like to see HitmanPro.Alert add phishing detection, tracker blocking, and more effective keylogger protection to its web protections. However, if you’re looking for an advanced tool to protect your devices from the latest exploit attacks, HitmanPro.Alert is a good choice.

Password Protection

The password protection included in HitmanPro.Alert is a specific tool to prevent Mimikatz-style password theft attacks — which aren’t very common hitmanpro all in 2022. These are a type of exploit attack in which hackers take advantage of a Windows feature known as WDigest, hitmanpro. This feature loads encrypted passwords into memory, hitmanpro, which hackers can then dump and steal from.

However, in Windows 10, WDigest is turned off by default. Meaning unless you’re running an older version of Windows, have manually turned Wdigest on, or have already hitmanpro infected with malware that can activate WDigest, hitmanpro, then the password protection doesn’t really do anything. If you’re on an older version of Windows, hitmanpro, the best protection against password dumping and other exploit attacks is to upgrade your operating system.

Overall, the password protection on HitmanPro.Alert is a pretty useless passive protection, hitmanpro. Especially if you consider that comprehensive password managers like Dashlane — which offer strong AES-256 encryption (the same banks use) — are available on the market for a cheap monthly subscription.

Remote Session Protection

HitmanPro.Alert’s Remote Session Protection is a pretty cool security feature to protect against hackers that could remotely access and hack your computer. When someone is accessing your computer remotely, HitmanPro.Alert stops them from running any applications they download onto your computer. It also hitmanpro all administrative permissions from applications, making it harder for them to make changes to your PC.

This is a great defense against rootkits and other viruses that allow hackers access to your PC without you knowing, and it worked really well in my testing. I tried a remote session on my PC and couldn’t hitmanpro any executables or binary files that I tried to open.

The tool also allows you to create a 1Password Pro 7.8.7 Crack token file that can unlock a session should you trust the person remotely accessing your PC.

However, HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t include a firewall, which is a helpful tool that can keep hackers from initiating a connection with your device in the first place — competitors like Bitdefender include useful firewalls in their plans.

Overall, HitmanPro.Alert’s Remote Session Protection feature is a helpful tool for keeping your device safe from invasive hacking attempts and remote access tools like rootkits and cryptojackers.

Additional Features

HitmanPro.Alert isn’t a very feature-rich antivirus, hitmanpro. However, it also comes with:

  • Webcam protection.
  • BadUSB protection.
  • Sandbox-aware malware protection.

The webcam protection is pretty disappointing. When your camera is accessed, hitmanpro, HitmanPro.Alert displays an alert saying your webcam is being hitmanpro, but it doesn’t stop the actual monitoring. Bitdefender, one of the most feature-rich antiviruses on the market, has webcam protection that actively blocks unauthorized apps or computers from accessing your webcam.

However, the other additional features are pretty cool. BadUSB protection defends against the BadUSB exploit attack, which targets vulnerable USB software (it can even inject viruses into your PC and steal your data). HitmanPro.Alert can detect BadUSB and hitmanpro it from running, although Hitmanpro would like to see HitmanPro.Alert just include total USB hacking protection like Norton does.

The sandbox-aware malware protection tricks malware files into thinking that your system is a virtual hitmanpro can trigger some advanced malware hitmanpro (like rootkits) to remove themselves from your computer to avoid detection, hitmanpro. It’s a clever tool that could be helpful against advanced malware files.

But overall, HitmanPro.Alert has a disappointing range hitmanpro additional features. Its specialized BadUSB and fake sandbox hitmanpro tools are pretty good, hitmanpro, but HitmanPro.Alert isn’t a great choice if you’re looking for a comprehensive suite with lots of additional features to fully protect you in 2022.

Plans and Pricing

Sophos offers two versions of its HitmanPro hitmanpro for Windows users only. Both packages come with a 30-day free trial.

HitmanPro — On-Demand Virus Scanner (Windows Only)

HitmanPro is just a simple anti-malware scanner — it’s pretty good, hitmanpro, but also very minimal, and it doesn’t even offer real-time malware detection.

However, Avira, hitmanpro, Bitdefender, and Norton all offer free anti-malware scanners, so you can just use one of those instead. Avira and Bitdefender’s free antivirus programs even offer free real-time protection — but HitmanPro is available with a 30-day free trial if you still want to give it a shot.

HitmanPro.Alert — Weak Real-Time Protection (Not Worth It)

HitmanPro.Alert is a more advanced package. It comes with the malware scanner as well as:

  • Real-time protection.
  • Web protection.
  • Password dumping protection.
  • Remote session protection.
  • Webcam protection.

Most of these extra features didn’t work very well, so I don’t think this plan is a worthwhile investment. The real-time protection allowed me to download malware, the web protection didn’t block phishing sites, and the password dumping protection isn’t needed for users on the latest Windows OS. You’re much better off getting a comprehensive antivirus suite such as Norton, which hitmanpro successfully protect hitmanpro from all of these risks and more.

But there’s a hitmanpro 30-day trial of HitmanPro.Alert, so you can give it a try and decide for yourself if it’s worth your money.

HitmanPro.Alert Ease of Use and Setup

HitmanPro and HitmanPro.Alert are both straightforward to set up and use.

HitmanPro is only 10MB in size, so it’s really quick to download, and you can run it without installation.

HitmanPro.Alert has to be installed, but it took less than 5 minutes to download and set up, hitmanpro. It includes HitmanPro (the malware scanner) as a separate application.

HitmanPro.Alert’s interface is really simple. A full malware scan can be started with one click. You can also access the quick scan from a simple dropdown menu.

The settings button allows you to hitmanpro scans and adjust various options — such as whether the malware scanner should scan for tracking cookies or potentially unwanted applications.

Scheduling scans is easy. All you have to do is choose between a quick or regular scan, select a day and time you want the scan to run, and hit OK.

The settings menu also provides access to the quarantine vault, hitmanpro, containing logs of every hitmanpro completed.

HitmanPro.Alert’s UI includes a lot of specific features and protections, but it’s still straightforward to navigate.

You can access each feature from 4 large buttons and enable/disable individual features depending on your needs.

However, hitmanpro, I don’t like how hard it is to initiate a quick scan in HitmanPro.Alert. If you click the “Anti-Malware” button, the only option is to scan the entire computer, hitmanpro. This opens the separate HitmanPro application and automatically initiates a full system scan.

To access the different scanning options, you have to open the separate HitmanPro application manually before adjusting the settings, and not HitmanPro.Alert.

Overall, however, HitmanPro and HitmanPro.Alert are fairly accessible and easy to use.

HitmanPro.Alert Customer Support

HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t have many options for customer hitmanpro you need help, you can access:

  • Email support.
  • FAQs (online knowledge base).

I sent an email asking for more information about one of the specific background process protection features. The support team replied in 2 days and were really informative hitmanpro knowledgeable.

Even so, I was disappointed in the time it took HitmanPro.Alert to reply. When I emailed McAfee, they got back to me within a couple of hours.

The FAQ section is informative, hitmanpro, but it doesn’t cover a lot of topics. It walks through the basic issues you may encounter while installing and using HitmanPro.Alert, but more advanced users will have difficulty finding information on more complex problems.

Other antiviruses have more comprehensive knowledge bases with instructional videos hitmanpro in-depth instructions — for example, Norton’s knowledge base includes forums that are populated by tech support people and users that answer complicated itools for iphone in detail.

Overall, HitmanPro.Alert’s customer support isn’t very good. While informative, the email support team was slow to reply. What’s more, HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t provide a comprehensive knowledge base, live chat, hitmanpro, or phone support — something many competitors offer.

Can HitmanPro.Alert Fully Protect Your Devices?

HitmanPro.Alert offers good malware scanning, hitmanpro, but it doesn’t have good real-time protection and it lacks many useful extras, hitmanpro. There’s also no Mac or mobile support, hitmanpro, meaning HitmanPro.Alert isn’t a good option to protect anytoiso converter pro of your devices.

HitmanPro.Alert’s remote session protection and exploit protections are pretty impressive, but the real-time protection and hitmanpro protection are pretty bad. The real-time protection failed to capture any malware hitmanpro downloads in my tests, hitmanpro, and when I ran hitmanpro keylogger tester on my computer, it could still capture my keystrokes despite HitmanPro.Alert running keystroke encryption.

Overall, HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t do anything that sets it apart from its more affordable and full-featured competitors. If you’re looking for a low-cost, lightweight antivirus program there are better free options available, and if you want to invest in a secure paid antivirus, competitors like Norton and Bitdefender offer much better protections.

That said, hitmanpro, if you want to try HitmanPro or HitmanPro.Alert, hitmanpro, both programs offer risk-free 30 day trials.

HitmanPro.Alert — Frequently Asked Questions

Is HitmanPro.Alert free?

HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t provide any free packages or money-back guarantees. However, hitmanpro, it does offer a 30-day free trial. Is HitmanPro.Alert a good antivirus?

Not really, hitmanpro. HitmanPro.Alert includes a decent on-demand malware scanner. When I tested the scanner, it captured 90% of the malware samples I had hidden in my computer. However, I had issues with some of the features in HitmanPro.Alert — the real-time malware protection and keystroke protection didn’t work well in my testing at all.

If you just want to scan for malware, then HitmanPro.Alert hitmanpro a decent option, but its buggy real-time protection keeps it from being hitmanpro good internet security suite for most users. If you’re looking for a comprehensive antivirus suite with good antivirus scanning, real-time protection, web protections, and more, hitmanpro, then I’d recommend Norton, hitmanpro, Bitdefender, or McAfee instead.

Can You Get HitmanPro.Alert for Android, Mac, or iOS?

Unfortunately, HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t offer any protections for Android, hitmanpro, iOS, or Mac. HitmanPro.Alert is only available for Windows, hitmanpro. If you’re looking for an antivirus that offers good protection for all of those other platforms, hitmanpro, I recommend Norton, Bitdefender, TotalAV, McAfee, or Avira. Or you can read hitmanpro lists of the best antiviruses for Android, hitmanpro, Mac, and iOS if you’re looking for coverage on a specific platform.

Is HitmanPro hitmanpro effective against malware?

Malware, hitmanpro, viruses, trojans, hitmanpro, and hitmanpro, spyware, and trackers are just some of the risks that users face hitmanpro from malicious files and programs. It’s important to choose an antivirus tool that can stop any of these assaults swiftly and efficiently.

In order to find out how well HitmanPro performs against a number of attacks, hitmanpro, I will run a few tests. This includes a real-time scanning test to see if hitmanpro program can stop a variety of dangers, hitmanpro. After testing the real-time scanning function of HitmanPro.Alert I will also check how well its on demand scanner works by finding malware that already exists on the local disk.

For hitmanpro avoidance of doubt, the software I will use in my tests is the HitmanPro.Alert version, as it includes the on-demand scanning function of HitmanPro plus it has real-time scanning which I also want to test and compare against other antivirus programs.

Real-time scanning tests

HitmanPro.Alert will be put to the test first by seeing how it handles a small number of malware sample files from the European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research (EICAR) in real-time.

In order to pass this test, hitmanpro, the real-time scanner must detect the files as malicious upon download and immediately stop them. There are four of these sample files, each of which is intended to replicate hitmanpro different kind of viral assault that may be experienced when using the internet.

The first is an hitmanpro file which has an ASCII character string. In the second file, hitmanpro, eicar.com.txt, I have copied the string from the first file and pasted it into Wordpad on my computer to see whether the malware scanner picks it up when I save the file.  The third test file is included inside a zip folder, which adds an additional layer of complexity for the antivirus scanner, but it is also a condition that it should be able to handle in the real world. A good anti-virus scanner will be able to identify unlock extreme picture finder Activators Patch virus that has been hidden inside an archive. The final Eicar test file is a zip bundle that contains the virus sample file archived more than one folder deep. This file will be used to detect whether the virus scanner examines file archive folders that hitmanpro more than one level deep in the directory structure.

I’m interested in seeing whether the software detects and blocks the samples, and if so, hitmanpro it performs that task, hitmanpro. The following table contains the results of the HitmanPro.Alert program:

What this table means is that HitmanPro.Alert failed to detect the files at the point of download and allowed all four EICAR files including the saved .txt hitmanpro and the archived files to be downloaded even with its real-time scanner active. Not good.

Next I tested the software’s hitmanpro scanner against some live malware files, to see how it performed, hitmanpro. Unlike the sample files from EICAR that replicate a virus, these live samples include harmful programs such as trojans and adware.

Again, hitmanpro, I found that in my tests HitmanPro failed to hitmanpro the download or immediately quarantine the live samples that I downloaded.  Upon attempting to extract the zipped files from the live sample archives, hitmanpro, it hitmanpro detect the samples.

The ability to block malware that is already running on your system is a useful feature, but I’d prefer a real-time protection feature that could more accurately prevent malware from being downloaded and running in the first place, hitmanpro, such as the real-time protection offered by most leading antivirus brands.

I had to hitmanpro another antivirus software to pick up the malware files that were left behind and clean them from my device.

HitmanPro.Alert also didn’t provide any data on how many files it checked during its scan which makes it harder to understand how far into the system it checked hitmanpro malware.

Due to its short scan time and the fact it didn’t find any of the sample malware hitmanpro on my device, I don’t have confidence that it checked as many files as other programs I’ve tested, hitmanpro. The table below shows examples of comparable scans by other providers.

As the table shows other providers’ full scans took much longer than HitmanPro.Alert.

Independent lab testing results

In this part of the review, hitmanpro, I would usually provide an overview of the latest results hitmanpro leading independent test labs AV-Comparatives and AV-Test.

The idea is that the labs provide large scale tests against hundreds of samples including zero-day threats, so they hitmanpro a good indication of how good the software is.

In this case, I am unable to find any testing data from the two labs, hitmanpro, so I can’t assess how HitmanPro performs against a broader set of data or against zero-day threats as found in the test run by Hitmanpro features

HitmanPro advanced <b>hitmanpro</b> width=
HitmanPro comes with a number of different features. Here’s an overview of some of the main ones.

Protection for R-Studio 8.12 Build 175573 keygen programs

HitmanPro.Alert claims it can protect vulnerable programs by fighting against backdoor attacks.

Using a backdoor, hitmanpro, an individual may get access to a computer system or hitmanpro data by circumventing the system’s normal security safeguards. For debugging or other reasons, hitmanpro, a developer may include a backdoor in a program or operating system that may be accessed by hitmanpro developers.

As a consequence, remote access to resources inside an application, such as databases and file servers, is allowed, hitmanpro, allowing offenders the ability to remotely issue system instructions and update malware without being physically present.

Even very popular standard applications such as Microsoft Word and Office hitmanpro be the weakest link. Their capabilities hitmanpro be used against you, hitmanpro, allowing for the creation of an open backdoor to your files and sensitive hitmanpro.

According to the company, the idea behind the feature is that hackers don’t want their hitmanpro to be studied by security experts because then it becomes well known and easy to stop.

To prevent this many malware programs have a built-in ‘self-destruction’ mode when the software recognizes behavior like that of an antivirus researcher. To take advantage of this HitmanPro.Alert has a built in feature to make it look as though everyone who uses the antivirus looks like a researcher to the utorrent bitcoin. It claims hitmanpro this results in a lot of terminated malware.

Secure browser and webcam protection

HitmanPro.Alert encrypts the information you enter on the internet, rendering keyloggers ineffective at acquiring critical information such as credit card numbers and login passwords, hitmanpro, or personal details like your date of birth and address.

When HitmanPro.Alert hitmanpro unlawful encryption, it responds immediately. It first makes backups of the data, then disables and eliminates the ransomware from the system. Finally, it enables the data to be restored to its original format when necessary. There is no need for user input, and no ransomware signatures are required, hitmanpro.

No one wants an antivirus that will slow down their PC too much hitmanpro I ran a few tests to see how HitmanPro performs.

The quickscan feature doesn’t seem to be available on the HitmanPro.Alert version I was using for testing, so I can’t look at its impact, but I was able to run a full scan.

I logged the percentage of my CPU that was being utilized just before I ran the scan, hitmanpro, as a checkpoint for comparison.

Then, while the scan was running, I noted how long it took and how much it impacted the computer’s resources compared to the control numbers. This allowed me to determine how much the antivirus application affected PC performance when the scan is running, hitmanpro. The performance impact of the full scan hitmanpro shown below.

One year plan only $24.95!

As can be observed, hitmanpro, hitmanpro is some impact on the performance numbers. CPU utilization hitmanpro by 35 percent and disk utilization increased from 34 MB/s to 519 MB/s.

The features themselves hitmanpro very clearly laid out and easy to navigate. You can easily launch a scan from the top of the interface, run product hitmanpro, and check tuneskit audio converter tutorial you have the latest available version of the software.

The UI will also provide a clear notice informing you if your system is safe or not, hitmanpro, and whether you need to take action to avg internet security serial key it. You may also immediately visit the safety notice to get a history of what actions or recommendations the program has performed.

HitmanPro customer support

HitmanPro and HitManPro.Alert have separate support pages on the company website, hitmanpro, so make sure you navigate to the correct page for the version of the software you are using.HitmanPro support page

For a paid product, the support from HitmanPro is sadly lacking. There’s a short FAQ answering a few basic questions, but there’s no knowledgebase, live chat, hitmanpro, video tutorials, or phone support.

HitmanPro does offer a support email where you can get help from the hitmanpro if the FAQ does hitmanpro solve your problem.

Most paid antivirus products I’ve tested provide much more in depth support than what I’ve found with HitmanPro.

Compatibility

Currently, hitmanpro, HitmanPro is a Windows computer and tablet only product, hitmanpro, so Mac, hitmanpro, Linux, iOS, and Android users will need to look elsewhere for antivirus protection, hitmanpro. The minimum system requirements to run Hitmanpro are listed below.

Best HitmanPro alternatives

It’s always worth researching and considering the best antivirus for you. During my testing of various AV programs I hitmanpro found which programs have the best test results, and the best all round package for security and privacy, hitmanpro. Here are hitmanpro few of my recommendations.

AVG: A solid all-around antivirus with a 100 per cent protection rating in the most recent lab testing, hitmanpro. A data shredder and camera protection are among the handy utilities included in the package.

ESET: Strong malware detection ratings combined with a fair price crack + license key make ESET a viable option. Because of the hitmanpro ESET pricing is structured, hitmanpro, it might provide value if you just need to protect one or two devices.

Bitdefender: Bitdefender augments its antivirus scanning with privacy technologies to provide an all-around protection solution. It will assist to safeguard your personal data while having a little influence on the functionality of your PC.

Conclusion

In this review, I have found that in my own tests HitmanPro.Alert failed to live up to its promises, hitmanpro. While hitmanpro testing is limited in scope and the program may well perform better in larger data set testing, there is little available in independent research to verify the program’s efficacy.

I found that its on demand scans failed to detect malware samples, and another program had to be installed to pick this up.

The plus points for HitmanPro.Alert is that it has some interesting features, a lightweight hitmanpro on PC resources, hitmanpro, and a pretty good interface, hitmanpro. However, there are much better antivirus solutions on the hitmanpro that offer better value for money with better records of efficacy against malware.

BleepingComputer Review:

HitmanPro is an anti-virus program that describes itself as a second opinion scanner that should be used in conjunction with another anti-virus program that you may already have installed.  If malware slips past your anti-virus software, HitmanPro will then step in to detect it.

This makes it very useful for removing stubborn infections, such as Ransomware, that corrupt Windows Safe Mode or disable your ability to access the Windows Desktop.

HitmanPro (64-bit)

HitmanPro 3 (64-bit) doesn't claim to be the primary solution for your PC security needs, but it does add another layer of malware protection and what the publishers describe as a "second opinion" to see if your computer is infected and help you remove any unwanted files.

Pros

Plays nicely with others: HitmanPro 3 doesn't need to be installed to work but even when we opted for installation, there were no issues with our current antivirus program.

Quick scans: The initial scan took less than three minutes, and even though it will vary from PC to PC, that's a quick turnaround.

Cons

Settings: As soon as you open HitmanPro, there's a Next button, which immediately starts the scan. You'll have to change any default settings you don't want before you hit that button because there's no way to alter any settings once it initiates the scan. It's not a big drawback, but some software allows you to decide whether to automatically upload files to the cloud or scan your computer every day at startup before initiating the first scan.

Bottom Line

There's nothing wrong with checking up on your antivirus software, and HitmanPro makes an easy job of it. You'll have 30 days to evaluate the software with full functionality (scan and remove), and then it only allows you to scan.

HitmanPro.Alert Antivirus Review 2022 — Does It Really Work?

HitmanPro.Alert (by Sophos) offers a good Windows-only antivirus scanner with strong exploit protections, but its real-time protection is weak, it doesn’t have phishing protection, and its extra features are all pretty bad. Honestly, there are many better antivirus programs out there — premium antiviruses like Norton, Bitdefender, or McAfee all offer perfect malware detection and removal rates, a wide range of useful extras, intuitive dashboards across all operating systems, and excellent customer support. And if you’re looking for minimalistic antivirus software at a budget-friendly price, I recommend you take a look at Sophos Home Premium.

HitmanPro.Alert’s malware scanner worked well during my tests, catching around 90% of the malware samples I downloaded onto my Windows computer. However, HitmanPro.Alert was unable to detect and block the majority of malware threats in real-time, which is a pretty big problem for an internet security suite.

Many of HitmanPro.Alert’s web protections were successful in my testing, blocking all browser-based exploit attacks, but HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t offer any protection against phishing sites.

Unfortunately, HitmanPro.Alert lacks a lot of essential security features that I want to see in an antivirus program in 2022, like a firewall, anti-phishing protection, parental controls, a VPN, a password manager, and even mobile apps — similarly priced competitors such as Norton and Bitdefender include these features and provide better real-time malware protection as well as coverage across a good variety of operating systems.

Compared to the top antiviruses on the market, HitmanPro.Alert isn’t a good value. If you’re looking for an affordable antivirus option with real-time scanning and web protections, there are plenty of free antivirus options that are better than HitmanPro.Alert. However, you can check out HitmanPro and HitmanPro.Alert for free with a 30-day free trial and decide for yourself if they’re worth your money in 2022.

HitmanPro.Alert Full Review

HitmanPro.Alert is a minimal antivirus program with a good malware scanner but weak additional features.

HitmanPro.Alert offers real-time malware scanning, as well as protection from browser-based exploits, USB attacks, remote session hacking, and password dumping. Unfortunately, HitmanPro.Alert’s real-time protection was really ineffective in my testing, detecting only 40% of my malware samples — which is pretty bad. Competitors like Norton, Bitdefender, and McAfee all caught 100% of the malware files in our real-time protection tests.

HitmanPro — which is only an on-demand antivirus scanner — and HitmanPro.Alert are both available for 30-day free trials and pretty affordable annual subscriptions.

HitmanPro.Alert Security Features

Virus Scanner (HitmanPro)

HitmanPro’s virus scanner compares files on your computer with 4 databases of known malware threats, including its own cloud-based database, as well as the databases run by SophosLabs, Kaspersky, and Bitdefender. This allows HitmanPro to catch a really broad range of malware, but it can’t detect zero-day threats because it doesn’t use heuristics or machine learning like Norton and McAfee do.

HitmanPro has 3 scan options:

  • Full scan. Scans the entire disk for malware.
  • Quick scan. Scans temporary files and critical folders for malware.
  • Scheduled scan. Schedule a time and day to run a quick or full system scan.

I tested the scanner by downloading an archive containing nearly one thousand malware samples, including viruses, computer worms, trojans, spyware, adware, ransomware, rootkits, and cryptojackers. I hid the samples in different locations across my hard drive, including hard-to-reach areas like system folders.

HitmanPro’s quick scan took 4 minutes to complete, which is better than most competitors — even top antiviruses like McAfee took 10 minutes to finish a quick scan of my system.

I was able to stream HD video and even run CPU/GPU intensive video games, which I was unable to do with some other antivirus programs.

HitmanPro isn’t as effective as premium competitors that use traditional signature-based scanning along with machine learning and heuristics to catch 100% of malware files, but I like its lightweight scanner, which uses 4 separate databases of known malware signatures to detect unsafe files.

Real-Time Malware Protection

HitmanPro.Alert’s real-time protection is supposed to detect any malware file before you download or run it on your system — but it didn’t work very well in my testing.

I tried to download my malware cache of nearly a thousand different files on a clean computer with HitmanPro.Alert running on it — but the real-time protection only detected around 40% of my malware test files, which is a really bad result.

HitmanPro.Alert does have some decent real-time exploit protections, which can detect and block malware and exploits from attacking background processes. This is a useful feature for blocking malware that’s already running on your system, but I’d prefer a real-time protection feature that could more accurately stop malware from being downloaded and run in the first place, like the real-time protection offered by Norton.

While HitmanPro.Alert’s exploit protections are pretty impressive, they don’t make up for the ineffective real-time malware scanner. Until HitmanPro.Alert can improve this feature, I can’t recommend users rely on this program for real-time malware protection — however, you can check our list of the best antivirus programs to find products with high-quality real-time protections.

Web Protections

HitmanPro.Alert’s web protection adds exploit protections to your web browser, monitors your browser for vulnerabilities, and encrypts your keystrokes. It’s a decent set of web protections, but HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t block dangerous phishing websites (Avira and McAfee both offer good exploit and phishing detection in their web shields).

The keystroke encryption doesn’t work either. It’s supposed to disguise anything you type into your web browser, stopping hackers from using keyloggers to intercept and steal your personally identifiable information (PII), such as passwords and credit card details.

The web exploit protection worked well, detecting and blocking all of the exploits in my testing. Browser-based exploits are a really common method of malware incursion, so I was happy to see that HitmanPro.Alert was able to block some exploits that even some advanced competitors (like Avira) missed in my testing.

Overall, HitmanPro.Alert’s web protections offer good defense against dangerous browser-based exploits, but not much else.

The password protection included in HitmanPro.Alert is a specific tool to prevent Mimikatz-style password theft attacks — which aren’t very common at all in 2022. These are a type of exploit attack in which hackers take advantage of a Windows feature known as WDigest. This feature loads encrypted passwords into memory, which hackers can then dump and steal from.

However, in Windows 10, WDigest is turned off by default. Meaning unless you’re running an older version of Windows, have manually turned Wdigest on, or have already been infected with malware that can activate WDigest, then the password protection doesn’t really do anything. If you’re on an older version of Windows, the best protection against password dumping and other exploit attacks is to upgrade your operating system.

Overall, the password protection on HitmanPro.Alert is a pretty useless passive protection.

It also removes all administrative permissions from applications, making it harder for them to make changes to your PC.

This is a great defense against rootkits and other viruses that allow hackers access to your PC without you knowing, and it worked really well in my testing. I tried a remote session on my PC and couldn’t access any executables or binary files that I tried to open.

The tool also allows you to create a 2-factor token file that can unlock a session should you trust the person remotely accessing your PC.

HitmanPro.Alert isn’t a very feature-rich antivirus. However, it also comes with:

  • Webcam protection.
  • BadUSB protection.
  • Sandbox-aware malware protection.

The webcam protection is pretty disappointing. When your camera is accessed, HitmanPro.Alert displays an alert saying your webcam is being monitored, but it doesn’t stop the actual monitoring.

HitmanPro.Alert can detect BadUSB and stop it from running, although I would like to see HitmanPro.Alert just include total USB hacking protection like Norton does.

The sandbox-aware malware protection tricks malware files into thinking that your system is a virtual machine, which can trigger some advanced malware files (like rootkits) to remove themselves from your computer to avoid detection. It’s a clever tool that could be helpful against advanced malware files.

But overall, HitmanPro.Alert has a disappointing range of additional features. Its specialized BadUSB and fake sandbox anti-malware tools are pretty good, but HitmanPro.Alert isn’t a great choice if you’re looking for a comprehensive suite with lots of additional features to fully protect you in 2022.

Plans and Pricing

Sophos offers two versions of its HitmanPro software for Windows users only. Both packages come with a 30-day free trial.

HitmanPro — On-Demand Virus Scanner (Windows Only)

HitmanPro is just a simple anti-malware scanner — it’s pretty good, but also very minimal, and it doesn’t even offer real-time malware detection.

However, Avira, Bitdefender, and Norton all offer free anti-malware scanners, so you can just use one of those instead.

You’re much better off getting a comprehensive antivirus suite such as Norton, which can successfully protect you from all of these risks and more.

But there’s a free 30-day trial of HitmanPro.Alert, so you can give it a try and decide for yourself if it’s worth your money.

HitmanPro.Alert Ease of Use and Setup

HitmanPro and HitmanPro.Alert are both straightforward to set up and use.

HitmanPro is only 10MB in size, so it’s really quick to download, and you can run it without installation.

HitmanPro.Alert has to be installed, but it took less than 5 minutes to download and set up. It includes HitmanPro (the malware scanner) as a separate application.

HitmanPro.Alert’s interface is really simple. A full malware scan can be started with one click. You can also access the quick scan from a simple dropdown menu.

The settings button allows you to schedule scans and adjust various options — such as whether the malware scanner should scan for tracking cookies or potentially unwanted applications.

Scheduling scans is easy. All you have to do is choose between a quick or regular scan, select a day and time you want the scan to run, and hit OK.

The settings menu also provides access to the quarantine vault, containing logs of every scan completed.

HitmanPro.Alert’s UI includes a lot of specific features and protections, but it’s still straightforward to navigate.

You can access each feature from 4 large buttons and enable/disable individual features depending on your needs.

However, I don’t like how hard it is to initiate a quick scan in HitmanPro.Alert. If you click the “Anti-Malware” button, the only option is to scan the entire computer.

HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t have many options for customer support. If you need help, you can access:

  • Email support.
  • FAQs (online knowledge base).

I sent an email asking for more information about one of the specific background process protection features. The support team replied in 2 days and were really informative and knowledgeable.

Even so, I was disappointed in the time it took HitmanPro.Alert to reply. When I emailed McAfee, they got back to me within a couple of hours.

The FAQ section is informative, but it doesn’t cover a lot of topics. It walks through the basic issues you may encounter while installing and using HitmanPro.Alert, but more advanced users will have difficulty finding information on more complex problems.

Other antiviruses have more comprehensive knowledge bases with instructional videos and in-depth instructions — for example, Norton’s knowledge base includes forums that are populated by tech support people and users that answer complicated questions in detail.

Overall, HitmanPro.Alert’s customer support isn’t very good. While informative, the email support team was slow to reply. What’s more, HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t provide a comprehensive knowledge base, live chat, or phone support — something many competitors offer.

Can HitmanPro.Alert Fully Protect Your Devices?

HitmanPro.Alert offers good malware scanning, but it doesn’t have good real-time protection and it lacks many useful extras. There’s also no Mac or mobile support, meaning HitmanPro.Alert isn’t a good option to protect all of your devices.

HitmanPro.Alert’s remote session protection and exploit protections are pretty impressive, but the real-time protection and password protection are pretty bad. The real-time protection failed to capture any malware sample downloads in my tests, and when I ran a keylogger tester on my computer, it could still capture my keystrokes despite HitmanPro.Alert running keystroke encryption.

That said, if you want to try HitmanPro or HitmanPro.Alert, both programs offer risk-free 30 day trials.

HitmanPro.Alert — Frequently Asked Questions

Is HitmanPro.Alert free?

HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t provide any free packages or money-back guarantees. However, it does offer a 30-day free trial. If you’re looking for a 100% free antivirus program, you can check out our list of the best free Windows antiviruses (spoiler alert: Avira is our number one free antivirus for 2022).

Is HitmanPro.Alert a good antivirus?

Not really.

If you just want to scan for malware, then HitmanPro.Alert is a decent option, but its buggy real-time protection keeps it from being a good internet security suite for most users. If you’re looking for a comprehensive antivirus suite with good antivirus scanning, real-time protection, web protections, and more, then I’d recommend Norton, Bitdefender, or McAfee instead.

Can You Get HitmanPro.Alert for Android, Mac, or iOS?

Unfortunately, HitmanPro.Alert doesn’t offer any protections for Android, iOS, or Mac. HitmanPro.Alert is only available for Windows. If you’re looking for an antivirus that offers good protection for all of those other platforms, I recommend Norton, Bitdefender, TotalAV, McAfee, or Avira. Or you can read our lists of the best antiviruses for Android, Mac, and iOS if you’re looking for coverage on a specific platform.
